Germany Vs Italy, Will history repeat itself?

Where two Elephants fight the ground suffers.- says an African proverb.

World Cup holders Germany have the chance to further their ambitions and reign victorious on the European stage this summer when they meet Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 on Saturday.

Joachim Low's side have won all but one of their matches in the tournament in France so far - a goalless draw against Poland in the group stages - and their 3-0 victory over Slovakia in the last 16 showed they are moving into top gear at just the right time.

But Antonio Conte's Italy team will be difficult opposition to overcome, with the Azzurri having disposed of reigning European champions Spain 2-0 in Paris - while doing the same to Germany in the 2012 European semi-finals.

Goals from Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pelle along with a passionate and tactically superior display from the entire team helped Italy book their place in the next round on Monday, despite pre-tournament expectations being low.

And Italy now have the chance to answer their critics further if they can secure a win over Germany in what is sure to be a much-anticipated clash between two great football nations.

Conte will be without the services of midfielder Thiago Motta, who is suspended after picking up a booking in the 2-0 win over Spain while Daniele De Rossi suffered a knock to his hip, although it remains to be seen whether he will start in Bordeaux.

Antonio Candreva has also missed the Azzurri's last two matches with a groin injury.

However, Low has no such injury concerns or suspensions to worry about.

Germany possible starting XI: Neuer, Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Hector, Khedira, Kroos, Ozil, Muller, Draxler, Gomez.

Italy possible starting XI: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Florenzi, Parolo, De Rossi, Giaccherini, De Sciglio, Pelle, Eder.

What People are saying about tomorrow's Match.

Germany coach Low: "I believe that the two best sides at this tournament so far will now meet. Now it is our chance to turn the tables. Italy has players who are well schooled in defence, but also great attackers, fast counter-attacks. They play a great attacking game."

Italy manager Conte: "We now face the best side at the European Championship next Saturday. It's going to be very, very hard in all aspects.

"For me Germany are on a higher level to everybody. So we're going to have to regain our strength and prepare it well, with the same attention, desire and determination because we're going to need something super-extraordinary for that game, not just extraordinary."

How would Predict

Germany have never beaten Italy in eight past tournament meetings - Will history repeats itself?
